Role – As a machine learning engineer at Local Roots, you’ll be solving challenges at the forefront of machine learning technology that will transform agriculture, crop monitoring, plant science, breeding, and food. We’re looking for an exceptional and creative engineer to usher in the next era of farming.

Responsibilities – You should be confident making significant contributions in a few of the following categories:

• Developing creative computer vision and object recognition products
• Building sensor infrastructure to collect additional crop data
• Design and implement experiments to collect new and meaningful data
• Developing algorithms that process an array of farming inputs and crop outputs in order to maximize specific crop characteristics (yield, color, taste, etc.)
• Building real-time 3D computer vision systems for remote crop monitoring

Requirements – Your background should include most of the following:

• Extensive experience in machine learning or artificial intelligence
• Fast prototyping skills, including comprehensive feature integration during all cycles of development
• Confidence managing engineering projects from start to finish with little guidance
• Enthusiasm to problem solve, innovate, hack, and build
• Excitement in the face of uncertainty

Bonus Skills – Bonus points if any of these also describe you:

• MS or PhD in artificial intelligence or machine learning
• 3+ years in artificial intelligence or machine learning
• 5+ years professional experience
• Expertise in plant physiology
• Experience with user interfaces, networking, agriculture, and food processing
