An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Software Development Manager to join the UK IT Development group, working on software projects for European and Global clients within the Rakuten group. Rakuten employs a wide variety of development technologies, tools and practices and is involved in a huge variety of software development projects.

The role
As Software Development Manager you will lead and manage the software development team, helping us to build high-quality software for our clients. Services are provided to other Rakuten companies and current projects include building websites as well as front and back-end services.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Managing Agile development teams to deliver software products within time, quality and budget constraints.
• Ensuring that all development work follows best practices, including architectural and coding standards and patterns.
• Ensuring that the team develops and maintains good documentation and makes it available to stakeholders.
• To ensure good communication between development and business teams and clear visibility of development progress and processes.
• To facilitate, evangelise and enhance the use of Agile processes across development and business teams.
• To provide leadership and mentoring to all members of the development team.
• To manage the professional development of the software development team, including objectives, training and regular appraisals.

Requirements
• A background in software development.
• Experience in the leadership and line management of a software development team.
• Experience of Agile development approaches and optimising the performance of Agile teams.
• Experience of introducing processes to established development teams.
• Experience of gathering business needs and ensuring they are understood by technical teams.
• Management of the technical delivery of software projects.
• Communicating with all parties and creating good relationships between business and IT teams.
• An understanding of technical concepts including databases, web services, REST, private and public cloud, functional and non-functional requirements and more.
