Job description
Guiding the software development team in order to provide health management information solutions nationally and internationally to internal and external clients on the DHIS 1.4, DHIS 2.0 or other relevant software. Supporting the Director ICT to set the organisation’s software development strategy, software development standards and good practices. Develop software. Oversee software development life cycles, ensuring effective integration between client requirements and technical solutions. Support the establishment of an appropriate software development environment. Ensure that environment remains viable in terms of costs and benefits in executing any projects. Set and ensure compliance with Policies, Standards and Procedures. Guarantee Project Quality Assurance and Quality Management and timeous delivery of products and processes. Ensure appropriate documentation of software. Compile reports. Mentor and support software developers’ professional development.
Skills & requirements
IT-related degree or certification courses
A high level of proficiency with object-oriented programming
At least 10 years extensive software development experience
At east 5 years experience leading software development teams
A valid driver’s license
Willingness to travel extensively within South Africa and occasionally abroad.
The following attributes will be advantageous:
- Development experience with DHIS 1.4 and/or DHIS 2.0
- Knowledge of public health systems and health information systems
- Open Source Software development experience
- Experience leading software development teams
- Experience working remotely, collaborating with other developers and using platforms such as Github
- Knowledge of and experience with a number of development languages, approaches and frameworks, such as Java and SQL, MS Access, PostgreSQL, GIS, A++, NODE JS, RUBY, RUBY ON RAILS, Mongodb, Cassandra, Thrift Apache, HTML5, CSS3, ANGULAR JS, REACT JS, JAVASCRIPT, JQUERY, Laravel, Symfony, CakePHP, Codeignitor, Zend frameworks
Experience designing Android, Java mobile apps
Proficiency with an office application suite such as MS Office and LibreOffice
