Backend Developer

Stemming from our success in creating products for national events such as 7tennis and the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, our Product and Technology team are now seeking a talented backend developer for a 6 month contract to perm with experience in Javascript and NodeJs to help us grow our portfolio of successful consumer digital products and capabilities. We want to find someone who is highly technically competent, able to see the “big picture” and deep dive into detail to gauge risk.

In this role your primary focus will be to plan, implement and maintain server side solutions that power a wide variety of cutting edge applications and products.

Some of your duties will include:

    Write code to implement required functionality and fix bugs
    Incorporate concepts rated to cloud hosting and infrastructure platforms
    Proactively research, recommend, design, prototype, develop, and support technologies

To be successful in this role you will need to have:

    3+ years of professional software development experience, or equivalent
    Up to date knowledge of Javascript
        ECMAScript 6
    Fluent with asynchronous Javascript
        Callbacks, Promises, Generator Functions, and, optionally, Async Functions
        Understand the Javascript event loop
    Fluent with automated code quality tools
        Linting, e.g. using eslint
        Testing, e.g. using mocha, chai and sinon
        Coverage, e.g. using istanbul
        External testing, e.g. load testing
    Fluent with persistence layers
        Database, e.g. using postgresql
        Cache, e.g. using redis

Nice to have:

    Fluent with NodeJs development
        Work with projects utilising multiple npm dependencies
        Familiar with semantic versioning
    Fluent with API development
        Server frameworks, e.g. express
        Familiar with middleware
        Familiar with performance tradeoffs and optimisations
        Familiar with paradigms, e.g. REST
    Fluent with modern development work flows
        Version control systems, e.g. git
        Branching and tagging strategies, e.g. git flow
    Continuous integration and continuous deployment
        Automated build pipelines, e.g. Jenkins
        Deployment to cloud infrastructure, e.g. AWS
        Using container technology, e.g. Docker
