IT Developer

Alleanza Contro il Cancro is seeking a motivated full stack developer to join the ACC-genomics project.

BACKGROUND

Alleanza Contro il Cancro (ACC) is the largest Italian oncology network which comprises 19 Cancer Research Institutes (IRCCS). The partnership allows each institute to coordinate efforts, avoid overlaps, and provide a forum to explore policy recommendations aiming to speed up implementation. ACC has initiated a group of projects within the ACC-Genomics working group with the goal of promoting the nationwide adoption of Next-generation sequencing-based diagnostic platforms in clinical routine. The aim is to routinely obtain high-throughput genomic characterisation of individual cancer genomes, so as to match each patient with the best available treatment.

Bioinformatic support for the ACC-genomics projects is provided by the ACC-Bioinformatics working group, composed of leading bioinformaticians from each participating institution.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The candidate will be responsible for implementing, maintaining the ACC IT platform for the ACC-genomics program. Such platform will include several components: LIMS (laboratory management information system), data analysis platform, pipeline analysis management system (https://galaxyproject.org), archive of patients genetic information, Data portal (web application to share results among the community). The ideal candidate for this position should have experience in the construction of such complex informatics infrastructures. Basic knowledge of cancer genomics is a plus.

The position involves:

• Implementing dedicated methods of storing genetic data generated by next generation sequencing of patients' samples. The clinical setting and the sensitive nature of the data will require particular care in the development of the appropriate data protection methodologies.
• Participating to the development of scientific databases and their application in a growing clinical genomics environment;
• Implementation, and maintenance of locally stored data resources required for various analysis tasks;
• Implementation, updating and maintenance of web applications to provide an interface with the ACC platform and databases.
• Participating in designing, implementing, validating and maintaining bioinformatics pipelines

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

The applicant must have:

• English proficiency;
• A strong work ethic and commitment to timely delivery of results;
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
• Previous experience in the construction of complex informatics infrastructures;
• Experience of Linux Administration processes;
• Familiarity with front-end and back-end development.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Will be considered an asset:

• Experience with NGS data analysis, Cancer genomics and bioinformatics related resources.
• Prior experience working with large-scale datasets using high performance computing environments is desirable.
