Senior Software Engineer

The Senior Software Engineer will be responsible for architectural design and development of our new platform, as well as mentoring Junior Software Engineers.  

Key Responsibilities 

• Leading the design effort on new projects
• Developing the most complex portions of assigned projects
• Mentoring Junior Software Engineers and/or Contractors
• Participating in product discussions (we want you to have ideas about the product, not just about the code)

Experience

• 3-6 years of software development experience
• Experience working on a high scale media site
• Experience working in an agile environment. You should be familiar with environments that have weekly releases and story cards.
• Experience working closely with a creative product team. You should have examples of suggesting/refining product ideas that eventually became part of the overall site.

Qualifications

• Expert level coding skills in Ruby/Ruby on Rails and strong coding skills in at least one other language
• Strong sysadmin skills. You should know your way around a Linux Terminal.
• Fluency in web technologies (CSS/HTML/Javascript)
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
• Flexible team player and instinctive collaborator

Preferred

• Strong SQL Background
• Experience with MySQL Administration, AWS Management, and Apache/Nginx Administration
