Job description
As a senior engineer, you’ll be designing and coding our ever-growing set of backend services. Help us build a massively scalable, realtime data-mining infrastructure for ingesting and analyzing web content. Crawl thousands of sites and gather billions of data points from across the web to power dynamic user experiences for tablet and mobile devices.
You should be excited to run massively-concurrent code across thousands of nodes, maximize the efficiency of your reduce phases, and disect data on the fly with cutting-edge tools. You should enjoy diagraming new solutions on a whiteboard with other engineers, and then executing and shipping through an agile development process. We use tools such as Hadoop and Storm to scale our data-mining and classification infrastructure across hundreds of nodes, running in AWS.
Desired Skills and Expertise:
-5+ years experience developing production-quality code
-Strong understanding of functional & object-oriented design principles and patterns
-Experience with test-driven development
-Experience performing code reviews
-Familiarity with developing concurrent applications
-Fluency in multiple modern programming languages (Scala, Node.js, Java)
-Motivated, self-starter and team-player, comfortable working within an agile startup environment
Pluses:
-Experience with JVM-based languages and systems
-Experience with NoSQL or other distributed systems (think Riak, Dynamo, Cassandra, MongoDB — familarity with Wide-Column Datastores a plus)
-Experience with data-mining and building/leveraging crawlers
-Familiarity with engineering highly-concurrent, real-time systems for data processing (knowledge of Twitter Storm a big plus)
-Familarity with Hadoop and Map-Reduce concepts, as well as experience using Hadoop DSLs such as Hive, Pig, Scalding, ElephantDB
-Experience in machine learning or natural language processing
-Familarity with DevOps concepts and deployment to AWS (knowledge of Puppet a plus)
