Senior Software Engineer (Java)- Database Services

Due to ongoing success and demand, Mimecast continues to scale operations globally. We are again looking for seasoned Core Java, server side (senior / mid) software engineers to join our Database Services platform team responsible for building high-performance, scalable, always-available Cloud-based systems.

The ideal candidate will share a passion for tackling complexity with simplicity and building platforms that can scale through multiple orders of magnitude. We are looking for someone who thinks that searching for a needle in a haystack can indeed be exciting and not afraid of exploring sometimes unconventional solutions.

Responsibilities:

• Participating in the architectural design, innovation and development of new services within the Mimecast platform relating to the DB Services team.
• Developing, testing, deploying and managing software across the full Continuous Delivery life-cycle.
• Supporting and trouble-shooting the platform.
• Leading and mentoring other engineers as well as liaising with other parts of the business.
• Perform role whilst working toward the goals and objectives of the business.
• Provide Hands-on problem solving with a willingness to do whatever it takes to complete an objective.
• Plan and negotiate with peers to meet deadlines.
• Encourage others to perform at their best embracing 'best practice'.
• Manage your own time and priorities, without the need for micro-management.

Essential skills:

• Meticulous attention to detail and a passion for end-to-end quality.
• 5 years+ experience in Java programming and runtime environments.
• Knowledge of developing and debugging distributed applications.
• Confident development skills with relational databases and SQL, ideally Postgres.
• Experience designing and implementing relational entity models and ORM mappings.
• Previous exposure to a high performing DevOps environment with an emphasis on fast paced, CI/CD and rapid delivery set ups.
• Understanding and practical application of unit testing and integration testing.
• Experience using SCMs such as SVN or Git.
• Team player, with a friendly can-do attitude.

The ideal candidate would have knowledge in most of the following:

• Solid experience with concurrency, multi-threading, server architectures, and distributed systems.
• Extensive knowledge of large storage systems, distributed storage systems.
• Operational experience with Linux.
• Knowledge of email messaging and security is highly advantageous.
• Experience with scripting languages like Ruby, Python, Bash.
• Experience with network programming and protocols including SOAP, REST, HTTP and raw TCP/IP sockets.
