Java Software Engineer - Incentive

The Role

We are looking for Java developers with a passion for developing modern and performant systems for a large player base, worldwide. Although Java development is your primary skill, you will be a team player, happy to deliver anything the team needs to meet their goal.

You will be part of an agile, cross-functional team, primarily focussed on developing the tools to attract players to our sites and rewarding them for their loyalty. The team owns a number of related systems in a microservice-powered environment and is responsible for maintaining, improving and innovating within these systems. We deal with promotions, refer-a-friend, personal offers, player communications and more, working closely with the business to continuously deliver features to our high volume and highly available gaming websites.

Among your many attributes, you are a self-starter who is comfortable within a rapidly changing environment, have a strong desire to learn and you will be a test-infected developer who wants to write good quality code and has a passion for development.

Responsibilities

• Develop high-transactional and scalable web applications using Java.
• Design, discuss and implement solutions for complex business problems.
• Be responsible for the production of clean code.
• Solve challenging technical problems within distributed environments.
• Continuous improvement of the tools and processes used by the team.
• Work in a team using Agile Methodologies, TDD, BDD and DevOps.
• Collaborate with key stakeholders for the feature you are working on, for example Product Owners, Technical Architects and Designers.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

Essential

• Commercial experience creating web applications using Java with good OOP principles & Java 8.
• An agile mindset
• Experience with modern enterprise frameworks, for example Spring or Java Enterprise.
• Solid grasp of REST and RESTful API design.
• Eager to work closely together with our business stakeholders and to become a champion of the team's domain.
• Positive and proactive attitude.
• Enthusiastic about the latest developments in the industry.
• A belief in DevOps.
• Be able to pick up additional tasks outside of the core specialism of Java in order to meet team commitments.
• Working understanding of transactional and multi-threaded systems.
• Strong team spirit.

Desirable

• Message Queue Systems.
• Experience working in an agile environment.
• NoSQL databases.
• Understanding of microservices architecture.
