Development Team Lead - Platform

Role Purpose

As team lead you are accountable for iterating process improvements, providing career development to members of the team and creating a great working atmosphere for your team. Many of the team leads within Gamesys operate as the Scrum Master for their team, although this is desirable rather than mandatory. The team is responsible for several critical software components and has a wide-ranging brief with respect to general improvements.

Your duty is to ensure the efficiency of the team’s workflow and products, whilst ensuring that the team has a healthy and collaborative atmosphere that allows its members to perform their duties and grow their skills to the best of their abilities. Continuous improvement and continuous learning are vital to the success of the team.

You should understand the importance of leading by example by adhering to the company ‘DNA’ and by being hands on with all aspects of the development process by contributing to design and code or QA, code reviews and making and facilitating technical meetings.

You will be responsible for managing and recruiting multiple disciplines within your team, so should have a good understanding of the workflow and processes associated with these roles and how they fit into an agile cross-functional environment.

Key Accountabilities

• Deliver great solutions in an iterative and incremental manner within a reasonable timeframe across a diverse range of components and products
• Line manage a team of cross functional developers and QA engineers
• Improve efficiency and processes of the team
• Be hands on within their domain - either developing or testing software

Key skills and experience:

Required

Technical

• Java and/or JavaScript (or similar, such as React, Angular or Typescript)
• Jira/Confluence
• Git (GitHub)

Non -Technical

• Servant leadership qualities, ability to coach and mentor, develop and motivate the team
• Advanced knowledge of Agile. We are looking for someone that not only knows an Agile framework but that knows why that framework was designed the way it is
• Embrace and be an advocate for the Engineering Best Practices
• A pragmatic thinker who plans, anticipates issues, considers risk, and helps deliver the best value to the business and customer
• An excellent communicator who highlights risks to stakeholders, and responds to concerns as they arise
• Ability to facilitate, coordinate meetings or discussions, help remove impediments and liaise with Stakeholders as required

Desirable but not essential

• Scrum Master experience (training is available)
• AWS exposure
• CI/CD (using tools like GoCD)
• Artifactory (or similar)
• Gambling or gaming industry experience
• Experience of managing small to medium sized teams
• Proven track record of improving team delivery and processes
