The Atlantic is a digital-first media company with over 150 years of history and 20 million online visitors a month. We’re looking for a full-stack engineer who is passionate about clean code and great journalism and is interested in joining our growing team for full-time onsite work at the historic Watergate complex in Washington DC.
Position in Brief:
The full-stack engineer will write well-documented and maintainable Python, HTML, JavaScript, and CSS code in a team-oriented environment. Responsibilities include maintaining and improving our custom content management system and web platform, and adding and deploying new features to our two websites: TheAtlantic.com and CityLab.com.
Skills & requirements
- Ability to define and communicate a technical vision, possessing excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Familiarity with the Django web framework
- Ability to translate a design into a working website using HTML5 and CSS3
- Experience writing complex high performance Python powered websites
- Experience with GIT version control
- Knowledge of SQL and relational database design and optimization
- Comfortable using Linux / Unix command line
- Strong attention to detail while implementing technical specifications
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills
