As a member of the web development team, you must be self-motivated to face several day to day challenges with a willingness to wear various hats.
You should possess abiding love towards learning upcoming web technologies, an incredible track record of producing stellar websites and a fantastic sense of humor.
You will be working often for clients’ requirements and dealing with them regularly. Hence, communication and analytical skills are expected by default from this position.
Job Responsibilities in Order of Importance:
- Assisting development and marketing departments with front-end development work on Wordpress based websites and landing pages, and working independently on all development aspects of these projects.
- Assisting development and marketing departments with front-end development work on Shopify based websites and landing pages, and working independently on all development aspects of these projects.
- Creating and editing raw HTML, CSS and jQuery code while conforming to code styles defined by the development department. Also editing inline-styles while maintaining website integrity.
- 1 to 1 translation of provided design files (PSDs for example) to client-editable websites with minimal oversight, using a visual page builder framework in Wordpress. This is more advanced than HTML -> PSD, however this experience would be useful.
- Providing support to clients via a ticketing system, which involves interaction with marketing and development departments, as well as interaction with Wordpress multi-management software and server-level control panels and operating systems.
- Assisting development with management of client accounts and other settings at the server control panel level using the WHM and cPanel software packages, and ability to work with these settings independently. Examples: domain DNS, email quotas, email migration, website transfers, bandwidth management, firewall management.
- Assisting development with management of server/s at the Operating System level using Apache, including editing of configuration files globally and per website. Examples: installing and configuring modules like mod_pagespeed, adjusting Cross Origin Resource Sharing rules, adjusting .htaccess files per website.
- Creating and editing PHP in a Wordpress context. Examples: custom plugins which allow default settings to be set when creating a new website, creating custom page templates which interact with the Wordpress post loop.
- Assisting development with creation of custom web software which interacts with MySQL databases directly. Examples: Software to display different vehicles with images, drawn from a database, based on an entered search query.
Required Knowledge and Skills
Candidate absolutely must:
- Be able to provide us with a clear selection of their best work which they feel appropriate for the role, preferably in the form of a portfolio-oriented website.
- Be skilled with written and spoken English.
- Be thoroughly and expertly fluent in all modern HTML and CSS code.
- Be strongly capable with CSS Media Queries and responsive web development.
- Be strongly capable with jQuery.
- Be strongly capable with PHP in a Wordpress context.
- Possess strong knowledge of the Wordpress frontend and backend.
- Possess intermediate knowledge of custom Wordpress themes and frameworks.
- Understand how to interact with both WHM and cPanel user interfaces at an intermediate level.
- Understand basic concepts of web font integration including use of Google Fonts and Adobe Typekit.
- Understand basic concepts of typography and spacing for design to code/CMS translation.
Desirable Knowledge and Skills
Candidate will be considered favorably if they can do any of the following:
- Demonstrate knowledge in using Integrated Development Environments more advanced than Adobe Dreamweaver.
- Demonstrate skills in interacting with customers/clients in a friendly and helpful manner.
- Demonstrate advanced PHP knowledge.
- Demonstrate advanced jQuery or JavaScript knowledge.
- Demonstrate advanced Apache knowledge.
- Demonstrate advanced MySQL knowledge.
- Demonstrate skill with bash commands and interacting with a server via SSH.
- Demonstrate advanced understanding of WHM management.
- Demonstrate excellent English skills.
- Demonstrate advanced understanding of maintaining design integrity when translating design files to code.
- Demonstrate a portfolio of websites which showcase highly advanced functionality, or unique functionality combined with solid design.
