I have the following data that's grouped according to the variable 'node'. I want to collapse some of the data into groups. Is there a more elegant way of doing it than the following:

This is how I've been doing this up to now so that I can aggregate the sum across the groups.

    I would write a format that collapses the groups how you want them. It's not apparent to me what the pattern is, but the code is at least as short as the above and probably shorter if there's any pattern.

  • Will do if the values will sum up in the groups. The pattern just collapses a standard 1*2*4*8*16 decision tree into a 1*2*3*4*5 Pascal's triangle kind of tree. Oct 15, 2013 at 17:26

    Perhaps then sort the L/Ws in a new variable, then PROC SORT by that, then use the original LWL whatever as START and LLW (sorted) as LABEL in PROC FORMAT.
