I am making an Android game that I am almost finished with. I need to add a TextView displaying how many lives the user has left. But it doesn't seem like I can use the setContentView method in this thread.

How can I make this work? I tried something but it didn't work. Please take a look at my setUpGameDesign() method.

Error:

The method setContentView(TextView) is undefined for the type new Runnable(){}

The method setContentView is declared in Activity and despite that it is running on UI thread it havnt reference to Activity. You cannot replace your View(your ExampleView) with another from itself.

Try to make your layout changes in Activity that hosts your SurfaceView.

Android includes a convenience function for running stuff on the UI thread from another thread. Essentially you have to make a 'runnable' which is just a function, and execute it on the activity thread. You can do that thustly:

    public void run() {
        safeSendJavascript(String.format(jsStr, registrationId,registrationId));
    }
});
