i am working on a code which briefly does the following:

1. first, i have an array of strings,input from user or prepopulated in textarea, like 1 c2 c4 etc. 1 is the no. while c1 c4 are connections.

2. then, i extract 1 and 4 from c1 and c4 by using split() and substring() in test()

3. next,i have two arrays, sbray[] and op[]. sbray contains all the no. appended with c's on the left side while op[] contains no. appended with c's on the right side.

4. now i sort sbray[] by first saving it into an Obj{} and then sorting it. the sorted indices are saved in A[]. using these indices i sort ob[] into oin[] and op[] into oup[] . Actually i am trying to sort the left connections first and using the indices of that i sort the right connection.

5. in the end i connect the respective left and right connections and count no. of tracks between them.

a brief look at the output of code will clarify my problem: i am having a problem wen i am loading example 2 after loading example 3 and 1. example 2 input has least number of entries i.e 6, example 1 and 3 has more inputs. So, when i load example 2 first total tracks used are 4 which is right, but when i first load example 1 or 3 then reset and then load example 2. the output is 5 tracks used for ex. 2 which is wrong. i guess, that since i am reusing same arrays, the values of array elements from previous examples when reset remain saved in oup[] and oin[], due to which i am getting extra entries. Any help in this matter is appreciated i am posting the code:

sidenote: always use var array = []; instead of new Array(); –  Christoph Apr 19 '12 at 13:16
