Why there is a race condition according to valgrind with the following code?

I thought that by using #pragma omp critical only 1 thread at a time can call the given function? I'm confused.

I can't see any threading problem here. random, min and max are local variables and the critical directive should make the call to randgen sequential. –  Tudor Apr 23 '12 at 14:51

You can find the answer in the Valgrind manual:

DRD only supports libgomp libraries that have been configured with this option [--disable-linux-futex] and in which symbol information is present. For most Linux distributions this means that you will have to recompile GCC.

recompiling gcc with --disable-linux-futex fixed the issue. The only side effect is some weird messages from valgrind: chase_cuOff: no entry for 0x0905e chase_cuOff: no entry for 0x0b661 and more 50 similar. Any idea what that is? –  Mario Apr 27 '12 at 10:56
