I have two json objects like

var json1 = [{id:1, name: 'xxx' ...}]
var json2 = [{id:2, name: 'xyz' ...}]

I want them merge in to single object

var finalObj = [{id:1, name: 'xxx' ...},{id:2, name: 'xyz' ...}]

@Royi Namir — No, you could serialise an array to JSON, but that is just an array. (The syntax of the objects inside the array don't conform to the JSON standard anyway). –  Quentin Apr 30 '12 at 13:58

You want the concat method.

var finalObj = json1.concat(json2);

Upon first appearance, the word "merg" leads one to think you need to use .extend, which is the proper jQuery way to "merge" JSON objects. However, $.extend(true, {}, json1, json2); will cause all values sharing the same key name to be overridden by the latest supplied in the params. As review of your question shows, this is undesired.

What you seek is a simple javascript function known as .concat. Which would work like:

var finalObj = json1.concat(json2);

While this is not a native jQuery function, you could easily add it to the jQuery library for simple future use as follows:

if (!$.concat) {
    $.extend({
        concat: function(a, b) {
            return a.concat(b);
        }
    });
};

And then recall it as desired like:

var finalObj = $.concat(json1, json2);

you could go a one step further and account for multiple array objects of this type with a func like:

(function($) {
    if (!$.concat) {
        $.extend({
            concat: function(a, b) {
                var r = [];
                for (var x in arguments) {
                    if (typeof x == 'object') r = r.concat(arguments[x]);
                }
                return r;
            }
        });
    };
})(jQuery);

Which would then allow things like:

var finalObj = $.concat(json1, json2, json3, json4, json5, ....);

And if you really want it jQuery style and very short and sweet (aka minified)

(function($){$.concat||$.extend({concat:function(b,c){var a=[];for(var x in arguments)if(typeof a=='object')a=a.concat(arguments[x]);return a}});})(jQuery);

@Vojta And if you'll look at the fiddle and later code, you'll see I take it to another level, allowing multiple concats in a single call as well as following basic jQuery scripting, thus maintaining a similar pattern of code when writing while using the jQuery library. –  SpYk3HH May 7 at 8:14

@Vojta You could, but then you're not maintaining consisting in writing. Some, like myself, like to include all repetitive methods in my jQuery. So when another is reading it later, it simply flows from on jQuery statement to the next, rather than looking like a jarbled mess of jQuery and vanilla JS. The other point is, my extension is just a starter point, as one might what to extend it further, as I have in 2 pieces I've coded which use $.concat as a way to combine dynamic JSON objects with dynamic table arrays into one, accurate, readable object. –  SpYk3HH May 7 at 12:38

You could try merge

var finalObj = $.merge(json1, json2);

Since you are using jQuery. How about the jQuery.extend() method?

Description: Merge the contents of two or more objects together into the first object.
