Can someone recommend a SHA(1/2) implementation that:

  1. Is relativity optimized for speed.
  2. Has a stand-alone implementation in C or C++. I mean it is one .c/.cpp file, not dependent on a long include hierarchy in some library.

SHA1 is sufficiently quick that any implementation of it is unlikely to be your application's bottleneck. What you want is an SHA1 implementation that is reliable and well-tested, not one that's 1% faster.

That said, here's an implementation in assembly by Intel that uses heavy vectorization (SSE3) to improve performance: http://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/improving-the-performance-of-the-secure-hash-algorithm-1/

PostgreSQL has a nice cryto library in their code that's fairly well-optimized and very easy to grab in just a .c and .h for each.
