I m trying to use one of the views in my nib file as a GLView.

In my iphoneDisplay.nib file I have a view set as the custom class to GLView (Code at the bottom) with an outlet set in my app delegate. The View i set changes to a black background color and NSLogs show that it is drawing from both the GLView and from my GLViewController but i dont see anything :/. Anyone know what im doing wrong?

Here is how I think your code is running

self.viewController = [[GLViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"iPhoneDisplay" bundle:nil]";

This reads the view controller and instantiates ( or schedules the instantiation on demand, not sure ), of the GLView you have defined in your NIB File.

self.window.rootViewController = self.viewController;

executes, at which point the GLView you have defined in your NIB file is is added to the view hierarchy. Then you make a whole new GLView, which is never added to the view hierarchy, and then you set that view to animating.

glViewFromNib.controller = self.window.rootViewController;
glViewFromNib.animationInterval = 1.0 / kRenderingFrequency;
[glViewFromNib startAnimation];

You should probably use an IBOutlet to get a handle on the GLView loaded with your NIB, and start that animating. ( or if you want to create the GLView in code, before assigning rootViewController do something like [self.viewController.view addSubView:glViewCreatedInCode] )
