I am trying to add RTT via FBOs to an application of mine using OpenGL via an appropriate pixel format in a C++ MFC application. I have copied the FBO code over from another, SDL based application of mine where RTT works. I am using glew for accessing the OpenGL driver.

I have extensively tested all OpenGL call results when creating, activating, deactivating and rendering the FBO, and I do not get any errors.

When switching the render buffer from GL_BACK to my render FBO's color attachment however, nothing at all seems to get written to the color buffer - not even glClearColor() seems to work on it.

Is this because the Windows pixel format doesn't allow me to render to FBOs? Since the render buffer switching all goes via OpenGL I doubt this is the case, but I am absolutely clueless about why RTT doesn't work in my app.

Any pointer what I might need to look for?

Code added. As I said: When directly rendering to the back buffer, everything works fine. The only difference is calling CFBO::Enable() prior to rendering, thus activating the FBO's color buffers as render targets, switching back to the back buffer when done rendering and drawing the first color buffer to the back buffer. No idea where I have gone wrong here. – karx11erx May 18 '12 at 20:23

I don't need a lesson on the principles of FBO handling - I wrote that the FBO code works in another application, so the problem lies somewhere in my application's context. Preparing a stand-alone example would not offer what is needed to identify the problem. The code I have presented is short (copying to a text editor can help), and it is the code I need to get to work. I can give you a link to the repo containing the entire application plus working VS 2008 and 2010 solution and project files. The critical point is easy to reach and to understand and simple to debug. I'd give a few pointers. – karx11erx May 18 '12 at 21:28
    
I want to emphasize that there was no way to present this problem as compilable 10 or 20 liner. As I said, the FBO code works in another application - I only printed it here for the sake of completeness and to avoid more code requests. Fact is that you couldn't be arsed to read through the code and detect the actually pretty easy to identify problem in CFBO::Draw(). I had just been looking at the code for too long and not been able to see it myself. I don't think you really want to help: You want cheap, simple, easy to understand problems you can quickly reap more rep for to feed your ego. – karx11erx May 19 '12 at 9:46

I've got it. I knew it must have been something stupid.

When rendering the color buffer to GL_BACK, instead of

glActiveTexture (GL_TEXTURE0);
glClientActiveTexture (GL_TEXTURE0);
glEnable (GL_TEXTURE_2D);

I had written

glEnable (GL_TEXTURE_2D);
glActiveTexture (GL_TEXTURE0);
glClientActiveTexture (GL_TEXTURE0);

You first have to specify the TMU before enabling or disabling texturing.

What I don't understand is why my question was downvoted three times already.

What I did expect? The decency to give a pointer first! I had posted the code after the first request for it. Just down-voting and voting for a close without any pointer is rooted in elitist arrogance in my opinion. Well, something like that was too be expected. Mahmoud, one more thing - you wouldn't have "guessed" the problem with my code, too, because apparently all the "experts" here cannot be arsed to read code that is more than 10 lines long and not pre-digested and in nice small chunks that do not require any brain work to understand.
