I receive hexadecimal number string from Matlab into my device . I check the data that is send via wireshark :

and here is what my device shows on the screen even before converting hexa to decimal :

totally nonsense ! anybody knows why the device shows this nonsense? does it convert hexadecimal itself to this format ?

for example I send 0 23 23 12 33 (xpc target udp send binary block)

If the hex dump is Wireshark capture of what Matlab sends, then I can tell you that Matlab does NOT send hex string. It sends binary data. But what do you want to DO with the data? –  PauliL May 23 '12 at 12:32
    
I want to unpack it (hex2dec code in matlab) using java codes and it seems really hard ! I'll add another example to my first post –  melisa zand May 23 '12 at 12:56

You havn't told us what type data has, but presumably it is byte[].

What would you expect from the following code

byte b = 42;
String receiveddata = "" + b;

Obviously you'll get a bunch of numbers.

Try using new String(data).

A byte represents a number and a number does not have an associated base. If you have three apples, in what base is the number of apples you have? Please clarify your question... –  aioobe May 23 '12 at 9:27
    
I want to convert my data to decimal , you mean that I should not use byte ? but the library that I use receive data only in byte format . I don't know what should I do . –  melisa zand May 23 '12 at 9:34
    
What I'm saying is that a byte contains a number and not a number in base X. (If I give you a byte containing the number 1, can you tell me which base I gave that byte in?) You're asking us to convert a number into a certain base, but I'm telling you the number doesn't have a base to start with, so what's there to convert? Can you please show us some sample input, and desired output. –  aioobe May 23 '12 at 9:39
    
for example here is the last 16 byte and in matlab we can convert it easily like this : >> hex2num('c0399999a0000000') ans = -25.6000 –  melisa zand May 23 '12 at 10:44
