I create a Context Menu for a ListView. On long-clicking an item in the ListView, a context menu with two options (Edit and Delete) will appear. My purpose is that when clicking Delete, only will the selected item in the ListView be removed from the list. But I don't know why all the items in the list are removed when this is done.

Here below is my code lines. Can you please provide a little help? It would be nice if you could give instructions based on my code.

UPDATE:

Thanks to raju, it now works (selected item removed from the list). However, the selected item is not removed from SharedPreferences. That's why it reappears when the the list is reloaded.

I use the following code lines to save items to SharedPreferences. Could anyone tell me how to update the SharedPreferences so that it reflects the change when items are removed from the list using raju's code lines. Thank you very much indeed.

To be honest i read your code real quickly, but aren't you clearing totally mWordHistory and aptList? –  seth May 30 '12 at 11:08

aptList.clear();

this line clears adapter... so all the items are being deleted.. instead use

               aptlist.remove(//the selected item);

in place of this

   deleteItem(info.id);

put

  String content =getListView().getItemAtPosition(info.position);
   aptList.remove(content);
   aptList.notifyDataSetChanged();

@naju: This is the one! Thank you very much for pointing it out. But how can I get the selected item, I mean specifically? I tried: aptList.remove("wordId"); but it still removes everything. –  Niamh Doyle May 30 '12 at 14:45

Many thanks. I followed your instruction as follows: String content = (String) mLSTHistory.getItemAtPosition(info.position); aptList.remove(content); aptList.notifyDataSetChanged(); deleteNote(info.id);. But the problem seems to lie in the Shared Preferences. I save the items using Shared Preferences, and when your code is applied, it appears to remove the item but this item is still there in the Shared Preferences and it re-appears when the ListView is reloaded. –  Niamh Doyle May 30 '12 at 15:10

you can use sharedpreferences.Editor to edit the shared preferences(delete the required item) –  raju May 31 '12 at 6:31

I followed your advise and in my case it looks like below;

Adapter declaration in activity class:

  private MyObjectAdapter adapter;

Adapter creation and setting adapter in onCreate in activity class:

adapter = new MyObjectAdapter(MainActivity.this, MyObject.getList(this));
setListAdapter(adapter);

getList is my own method.

Code that removes item from list view

MyObject myObjectToRemove = (MyObject)getListView().getItemAtPosition(positionAtList);
adapter.remove(myObjectToRemove);
adapter.notifyDataSetChanged();
