I am looking for the ability to do all of the following, in an integrated fashion, and have a complete set of tools that will solve the following workflow problem:
Customer Bob requests support with Feature X of SoftwareY with an email to email@example.com. Ticketing system creates ticket, support team handles it.
Support team members can elevate to bug tracker. The two databases remain completely separate, but linkable when desirable. Perhaps they are two "db instances" of the same package, or two different packages.
Bug tracker is integrated with mercurial and automated builds. When mercurial checkin plus a push to server mercurial repo causes automated builds to run, commit comments that say "Fixed bug 1234", automatically update the history on the bug tracking software side. When devs move the bug to verification status, the QA uses the integrated features of the software to locate the autobuild that contains the fixes.
When QA tests a build, like build 5555, that contains the fixes from one or more automated builds, and marks the build as verified, the ticket notes at the support desk side get updated, saying that "build 5555 has been verified, and it fixes bugs 1234, 1238, and 777".
Support people can now tell where in the stream a fix is, and when a customer can get a fixed build of the software. Devs don't have to update several disparate systems in order to get everyone off their backs about "where in the stream is fix 77 out of the 370 you're working on in this sprint".
So far, I have looked through everything from Atlassian, and Fog Creek (Kiln+Fogbugz), and dozens of others, and I can get 40% to 60% of the above, but not everything.
There is even a version control tool that looks like it wants to be all things to all people, Veracity, but I have a feeling it's a bit alpha, and plus, we're not switching away from Mercurial.
