It seems that when using Apache 2.2 with mod_jk to route request to a virtual host pointing to a back-end Glassfish 3.0.1 server on AJP connection (8009), any request will cause a connection leak on the Glashfish end

None of the connection timeout settings on Glassfish seem to work. When the number of leaked connections reaches the maximum number of threads in the thread-pool that is assigned to the ajp network listener, the Glassfish server becomes unresponsive but still won't free up any opened connections no matter how old they are (1 days ...). Strange behavior for a server connection

Has anyone experienced the same issue and solved the problem? Thank you

I have exactly the same problem using Apache 2.4.2 with mod_jk 1.2.35 hitting Glassfish 3.0.1 on RHEL 6. Haven't been able to find a solution.

Output from mod_jk.log on the Apache server.

[info] ajp_connection_tcp_get_message::jk_ajp_common.c (1258): (worker1) can't receive the response header message from tomcat, network problems or tomcat (<GLASSFISH SERVER IP>:8009) is down (errno=110)
[error] ajp_get_reply::jk_ajp_common.c (2117): (worker1) Tomcat is down or refused connection. No response has been sent to the client (yet)
[info] ajp_service::jk_ajp_common.c (2614): (worker1) sending request to tomcat failed (recoverable),  (attempt=2)
[error] ajp_service::jk_ajp_common.c (2634): (worker1) connecting to tomcat failed.

Glassfish is up and can telnet from the Apache server to the Glassfish server via port 8009 so connectivity is there. Glassfish just doesn't respond with info on port 8009 but does on the other listener (webcontainer ports i.e. 8080).
