# Sum up values in an array list in java [closed]

Hello to all tired and frustrated programmers,

There is a problem I can't solve:

In my array list there are Object arrays with the length of three and always on the last cell of the array there is a double. I need a loop which goes through the array list and sums up all doubles. (I need also some other thing from the arrays so a general idea how to loop through an array list would be perfect :-))

Any ideas? Thanks for your help, Greetings Demian

Until now I have the list with the arrays in it. I tried to write a for loop. I found a lot of things for an array but not for an array list. But I will look again. Thanks so far –  alltooconfusingthereforesleep Jun 11 '12 at 22:31

Looping through an arraylist is pretty much the same as looping through an array. The direct answer to your question using a for each loop:

double sum = 0;
for(Object[] array : list){
sum += (Double)array[2];
}

The difference between looping through an array and an arraylist is that you refer to the method size() instead of the variable length and you use the method get(index) instead of the square brackets [index]

for(int i = 0; i < array.length; i++){
array[i];
}

for(int i = 0; i < list.size(); i++){
list.get(i);
}
