I am a complete noob to OpenGL, I have been trying to get this simple piece of code to render on the iphone simulator, it starts up fine, the splash screen shows and then...nothing...just darkness, I can't tell what I am missing, can some please help? I haven't done anything for rotation yet, waiting to see what I have rendered first, then move on to rotation and such...

I am using Xcode 4.2, if that matters.

Shouldn't your m_view be the OpenGLVC controller's main view instead of added to the application window? Check out developer.apple.com/library/ios/DOCUMENTATION/UIKit/Reference/…. At the moment you are adding m_view to the application main window, then assigning OpenGLVC as the window's root view controller, which uses that view controller's view as the main window view. –  Rog Jun 15 '12 at 2:27
    
@Rog Thanks, once I assign the GLView to the OpenGLVC, it(the view) should get added implicitly as a subview of the window, that got it running fine and showing up all that I wanted. I thought, in this case a VC could serve any purpose so I'd created it so I don't see any issues, for isn't a UIView object also a UiResponder(just like a VC?). Well, what I want to say is thank you, seemed like it was more of View/View Controller problem than OpenGL. Thanks again. –  RNS Jun 16 '12 at 4:35

Try changing

glVertexPointer(2,GL_FLOAT,4,&Vertices[0].Position);
glColorPointer(4,GL_FLOAT,2,&Vertices[0].Color);

to

glVertexPointer(2,GL_FLOAT,sizeof(Vertex),&Vertices[0].Position);
glColorPointer(4,GL_FLOAT,sizeof(Vertex),&Vertices[0].Color);

The third argument in those two functions should be the stride, i.e., the difference in byte offset between, say, Vertices[0].Position and Vertices[1].Position.

In other words, if you were standing at Vertices[i].Position and took a single long stride to then stand at Vertices[i+1].Position, how long would your stride have to have been in bytes (not floats). It is not the gap that you have to skip over to get from the end of Vertices[i].Position to the start of Vertices[i+1].Position.

Also, the stride is always expressed in bytes, not floats or ints.

Thanks, I had it setup that way(with the sizeof) before...I was just fiddling with code to see what works (yep, I'd gone completely mental), but, yeah, it wouldn't have worked if I hadn't changed it back to sizeof(Vertex), the numbers I had put in were completely wrong! Thanks for bringing my attention to that. What I did with the View Controller wouldn't have helped without the change in the parameters to gl[Vertex && Color]Pointer().
