# Cuda, 32bits multiplication and modulo with negative numbers in PTX

I need to execute this formula in Cuda in PTX also in case the subtraction produces a negative result

beta = ( (dr - xr) * Ar) mod a_r

all the number are unsigned int

The problem is that right now it works only in case the subtraction returns a positive value. Where is the error?

Some examples:

• Positive case

Result is the same on cpu and gpu

• Negative case

I tried to do a simple test, adding just before the mov.b32

in case of negative number, nothing change if I add the modulo, because I get the corresponding positive. This unfortunately doesnt work obviously in case the subtraction gives an already positive value. CPU and GPU results in negative case works with this line (but not in positive)

This means that I could have a temporary working solution by having after the last cvt

Just use abs. `abs.typed, a; .type= { .s16, .s32, .s64 };` Take the absolute value of a and store it in d. –  Roger Dahl Jul 3 '12 at 19:38
