I'm trying to save camera preview image in realtime, my target is to save at least 1fps from the preview layed on the surface view. I'm stuck on this

I suppose that the byte array passed in

public synchronized void onPreviewFrame(byte[] data, Camera camera)

contains the raw data images so I'm trying to convert it in a bitmap and save on the sdcard. My questions are:

  1. is this the right path to fallow in order to achieve my target?
  2. I'm getting this error in the log SkImageDecoder::Factory returned null i suppose it is related at the bitmap conversion, is it right?

BitmapFactory does not know how to decode the preview data from the camera, because it is a raw array of pixels, with no identifying information. That's why it's throwing an exception.

You have to convert/interpret the data yourself into an RGB format, and construct a Bitmap from that. By default, the camera provides preview data in the NV21 format. You can find more details about NV21 here. To create a full-color RGB image, you'll need upsample the two chrominance channels, and then convert the result into RGB.

If you're OK with saving a JPEG, you can use the YuvImage class for this as well.
