I'm creating a "Rock Paper Scissors" game and would like the user to have the choice of entering either an integer "1" or string "rock." Their choice will be sent to a template to compare their answer with the computer's generated choice. It seems that the int comparisons inside the template are where the errors are resulting.

Typename T is where the user enters a string or int and Typename T2 is always the computer's generated int

here is the error: error C2678: binary '==' : no operator found which takes a left-hand operand of type 'std::string' (or there is no acceptable conversion) –  NicholasNickleby Jul 8 '12 at 5:36
    
Is the problem on the one==1 line? If one is a string, it looks like you should have one[0]=='1' –  Michael Jul 8 '12 at 5:48
    
I tried that. Since I'm only sending in strings of characters and integers into the template, wouldn't the first if statement catch the string and the else catch the integer? –  NicholasNickleby Jul 8 '12 at 15:47
    
No, if an integer is passed to the template, isalpha(one[0]) would give you a compilation error. If a string is passed, one==1 will give you a compilation error. You should always pass a string and work out what it is inside checkForWinner. Since you are then only calling this with one type, there is no benefit in it being a template –  Michael Jul 8 '12 at 21:44
