I have the created a sample Lucene code snippet which indexes a small file. I am able to perform the indexing correctly and search on a single field values. But, I want to query on multiple fields. I am using BooleanQuery, but it's not working.

Can somebody suggest? Here is my code snippet.

Finally got that thing working. Here is how you are suppose to use it.

  1. Build your query in BooleanQuery with your fields and parameters.
  2. Pass the BooleanQuery String to be parsed using the QueryParser.

Here is the snippet for the same.

BooleanQuery b = new BooleanQuery();

Set<String> fields = params.keySet();
StandardAnalyzer analyzer = new StandardAnalyzer(version);

b.add(new TermQuery(new Term("cs-method", "GET"), BooleanClause.Occur.SHOULD);
b.add(new TermQuery(new Term("cs-uri", "/blank"), BooleanClause.Occur.SHOULD);

Query q = new QueryParser(version, "cs-method", analyzer).parse(b.toString());

Here is the main() method down below the code snippet above:

Also, the output is as below:

Total Number of Documents - 11
Total Clues Found - 0

The queries are different for QueryParser and BooleanQuery. I see a + sign in the QueryParser version which is not there in the other one. Check the following.

Using QueryParser

Query q = new QueryParser(version, "cs-method", new StandardAnalyzer(version)).parse("cs-method:GET AND cs-uri:/blank");

Output for QueryParser

Total Number of Documents - 11
Query --> +cs-method:get +cs-uri:blank
Total Clues Found - 5

Using BooleanQuery

Map<String, String> searchParams = new HashMap<String, String>();
searchParams.put("cs-method", "GET");
searchParams.put("cs-uri", "/blank");
BooleanQuery q = new BooleanQuery();

Set<String> fields = params.keySet();
for (String field : fields) {
    q.add(new TermQuery(new Term(field, params.get(field))), BooleanClause.Occur.SHOULD);
}

Output for BooleanQuery

Total Number of Documents - 11
Query --> cs-method:GET cs-uri:/blank
Total Clues Found - 0

Interestingly, when I use the following query, the documents are fetched correctly. Query q = new QueryParser(version, "cs-method", new StandardAnalyzer(version)).parse("cs-method:GET AND cs-uri:/blank"); –  divinedragon Jul 20 '12 at 6:33
