I'm creating a threaded python script that puts into a queue some hosts/ips and then an unknown amount of threads (default is 10) gets this hosts from queue and executes a snmp query. Snmp query is working but every thread is doing query of all hosts. Host wants to receive only single call from random thread. Here I get the call to host from each thread.

I'll have to run it myself, but immediately I see one problem: Your thread code has no exit condition. while True: #code loops forever. – Joel Cornett Jul 20 '12 at 18:33

@MartinJames: It could lead to unexpected behavior. For example, if one attempts to join() on a ThreadURL object, the calling thread would block forever. Also, leaving a large number of threads running beyond their useful lifespan would use up resources. – Joel Cornett Jul 20 '12 at 21:38

The 'useful lifespan' of many threads is 'the whole runtime of the app'. Looping forever round some blocking call, (eg. a producer-consumer queue pop), is a normal, common design. It's waiting for threads to terminate, eg. with Join(), that is a little perverse <g> – Martin James Jul 21 '12 at 8:37

Double-check your indentation.

You enqueue the entirety of your list of hosts every time you initialize a new worker thread. Further, you serialize those threads by join()ing the queue:

for i in xrange(10):
  t = ThreadURL(q)
  ...
  for item in host_list:   # oops
    q.put(item)
  q.join()                 # oops
