I am getting this error

when trying to make an object for the the class player.....

This code is almost unreadable. Post a minimal code that illustrates the problem, please! In general there are lots of things that can be improved with this code but this is a different topic. –  Konrad Rudolph Jul 31 '12 at 10:11

You cannot do this outside of a function:

pic->upperrow=0;

You can declare (and intialize globals) but that's as far as it goes.

It's possible to do it outside a function, provided, he allocates memory to the location pointed to by pic. Since, upperrow is public. –  Amal Antony Jul 31 '12 at 10:22
