not sure why i got this segmentation fault..

normal usage is okay, like when i search for country details . but when i use list, not sure if its overloaded or what, it just give a segmentation fault

Debugging Findout: I realize if i cut short the countries.txt to about 20 records instead, no segmentation error. what could i do to maybe using a string instead of C string?

how do i use a string instead of char [200]

@BaokyANewProgramer C++ is a rather complicated language and impossible to learn by trial and error. I suggest investing some time in learning the language. It will really be worth it. –  juanchopanza Aug 5 '12 at 17:49

When you send a string over a socket ... you do not necessarily get the null terminator unless you explicitly write it in the socket.

I suspect that's what's happening - your strings aren't getting terminated correctly.

IMHO...

STRONG SUGGESTION:

Fire up the debugger, and step through the inner loop in "readLine()". Make sure it's not an infinite loop ;)

Step through the debugger, and see what's actually happening after each "read()" in your "readLine()" function's inner loop. I think you'll be surprised ;) Post back what you find. –  paulsm4 Aug 5 '12 at 17:50

@Baoky A New Programer - If your countries.txt has 20 records ... and each record is at most 10 bytes, then your buffer must be at least 210 bytes (20 records * (10 chars/record + NULL byte)). It sounds like you overran your buffer. One solution is to make a bigger buffer. Another, more general solution, is to 1) create a std::vector<std::string> to hold your records, then copy each C string to a new vector item. –  paulsm4 Aug 6 '12 at 0:52
