I am doing a project in which i am trying to connect the android app to connect with the external mysql. to check this i am using XAMPP as my local server. What Will be the url for my http post for this paoject?

I don't know whether you can directly connect mysql from android but I solve this issue last time by using JSON and PHP. There are few step by step tutorial how you can connect mysql with android in net. Please check this. tutorial

Usually this way is used, If using emulator and on localhost:

HttpPost httppost = new HttpPost("");

try remove ":80" if any problem.

If you are testing on a real device, then I suggest to use also php. Here is a example how I did it:

That was the programming in Java, now the php file:



mysql_select_db("*name of database*");

$q=mysql_query("SELECT * FROM *name of table* WHERE name = '*fill in a name*'");






This is it for PHP. You now can create a table in SQL, with a column named: name. And fill that.

I sadly can't find the tutorial anymore where I had this from. Imports can be a mess, I just copied and modified fast my own code.

Forgot to say to modify the manifest too, add:

 <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION" />
    <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION" />
    <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.INTERNET" >

@suresh This line: nameValuePairs.add(new BasicNameValuePair("name", "*enter a name*")); it is already in the code (It says "Wesley" now). Sorry for very late reaction. –  Bigflow Aug 9 '12 at 13:46
