I installed Elgg on a Hostgator account. I have the site up and accesible, however when I try to upload a user account profile image, it gives me the following error message;

Fatal error: Call to a member function open() on a non-object in /home/ryanhell/public_html/elgg/engine/classes/ElggFile.php on line 207

The problem is not with the call to open(), it's with the previous call: $fs = $this->getFilestore(); For some reason this is returning null, instead of a valid filestore. You might want to search around a bit for help on Elgg filestores, I recall that there has been a lot of discussion about problems with them not being there. –  Mike Hedman Aug 19 '12 at 20:31
    
Mike- thanks. I think some of my issues were due to using Hostgator Baby Croc hosting (shared). I have since picked up Linode VPS and am stepping through my first setup there. –  NathanHale1996 Aug 23 '12 at 1:35
