I want to do encrypt and decrypt on image files. However, when i run this codes, it give me this error

Exception in thread "main" java.lang.ClassCastException: javax.crypto.CipherInputStream cannot be cast to javax.imageio.stream.ImageOutputStream
at encypt.com.trial.main(trial.java:82)

and when i tried to open the sheepTest.png image, it cannot be open as the file appears to be damaged, corrupted or it is too large.

I've tried many ways already, however I still cannot find the mistake.Can anyone help me to solve the error? Thank you.

You really need to understand the difference of input and output. Just as in your new question, you mix these up badly here. –  Anony-Mousse Sep 7 '12 at 14:09

First of all, don't name your FileInputStream output. Second, the issue is that you try to cast your CipherInputStream to an imageoutputstream (like the error says) here:

ImageIO.write(input,"PNG",(ImageOutputStream) cos);

This won't work as CipherInputStream isn't an ImageOutputStream.


Alright, found a further issue on your naming; I think you named it right, but used the wrong class; change your last few lines to this:

        FileOutputStream output = new FileOutputStream("sheepTest.png");
        CipherOutputStream cos = new CipherOutputStream(output, pbeCipher);
        ImageIO.write(input, "PNG", cos);
        cos.close();

For writing out, you want to use an OutputStream (or FileOutputStream or Cipher or whatever you need).

Dont put my FileInputStream output? Meaning? and when i remove the (ImageOutputStream)there is a error on the write. It says The method write(RenderedImage, String, ImageOutputStream) in the type ImageIO is not applicable for the arguments (BufferedImage, String, CipherInputStream) –  Twister Aug 26 '12 at 16:21
    
Dont name your FileInputStream output* Just a naming convention, see the second part though as the issue was slightly different –  Alex Coleman Aug 26 '12 at 16:23
    
See the second part again; you don't want them to all be Inputs, make the all Outputs, FileOutputStream, not Input –  Alex Coleman Aug 26 '12 at 16:23
    
I've change already. But this error appear Exception in thread "main" java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: image == null! at javax.imageio.ImageTypeSpecifier.createFromRenderedImage(Unknown Source) at javax.imageio.ImageIO.getWriter(Unknown Source) at javax.imageio.ImageIO.write(Unknown Source) at encypt.com.trial.main(trial.java:82) and the sheepTest picture is empty –  Twister Aug 26 '12 at 16:28
    
@Twister: I think you should check the file "sheep.png", since according to the document, ImageIO.read() will return null if it cannot determine how to read the image. –  Genzer Aug 26 '12 at 16:44
