I have to compute the distance from a point to a line (check if it is line or a line segment). I am not sure that the bool function IsSegment is working properly. Can i have some suggestions? Thank you.

Are you expecting IsSegment==true to be calling IsSegment(a, b, c)==true for you? Because it does not. –  pickypg Aug 26 '12 at 17:44
    
No errors or incorect behavior. I runed some tests, but didn't covered all. That's why i am not sure that it's working properly. –  laura Aug 26 '12 at 17:51

Can't you just use the formula to get the distance?

So to find the line:

void getLine(double x1, double y1, double x2, double y2, double &a, double &b, double &c)
{
       // (x- p1X) / (p2X - p1X) = (y - p1Y) / (p2Y - p1Y) 
       a = y2 - y1;
       b = x2 - x1;
       c = x1 * y2 - x2 * y1;
}

i read that there is a difference between distance from a point to a line and the distance from a point to a segment line and that's why i asked for help. –  laura Aug 26 '12 at 19:34
    
@laura Did you draw some (segmented) lines and points on a piece of paper to verify your ideas? If not, do that. –  HonkyTonk Aug 27 '12 at 9:48
