Im desperatly trying to build a volume indicator

Just found some volume slider examples. What I look for is like in picture below:

What are good volume indicator techniques to handle ?

Probably it is better to build it with ActionScript. I created it just to convey the idea.

Speaking about the second component you need, it should be event easer. You can probably achieve that effect by drawing a gradient across your component and animating a mask whenever values are changing.

Great Writeup Ivan thanks a lot, how do you integrate this into an existing flex application would you know? Come's close im really bad at flex. I think i should go for the vertical bar instead and with the color gradiant thing, any recommandations on that? thx –  Rubytastic Sep 5 '12 at 11:27

There is one thing that should be clarified. When you add GradientEntry one by one and set each ratio to 0, the first two entries do not disappear. So I had to change yellow and red entries to green whenever slider is at 0 or 1 or in between.

like the first image ( not a or b ) and then not horizontal but vertical.. like in the image that I left in my question. The red will be at the top indicating strong volume. thats what I try to do, i see lots of request for volume sliders in flex as3 online perhaps if we can hook something together that will help other people too.. Although Im not that of a flex guy I always get the result I look for after some guidance help ( put in the right direction ) so maybe you can help me in the right direction thx ! –  Rubytastic Sep 5 '12 at 16:02
    
Do you want it to be green at first and then turn into red as volume is increasing? Should it be completely red at 100%? –  Ivan Zamylin Sep 5 '12 at 16:31
