I am connecting to a Office 365 instance using power shell in VB.net.This works fine but the memory usage of the service in which this is running keeps on increasing.I am using the following code to initiate and close the power shell.Seems like the close method is not working correctly.

Do you ever call CloseRunspace()? I don't see it in this code. You're disposing of everything in the case where you do have errors, but if there are no errors, it appears that you don't. –  alroc Sep 7 '12 at 12:37
    
Yes I am calling it.The issue is that even after calling it it does not release the memory completely which keeps on growing with every call to initrunspace(). –  agupta Sep 7 '12 at 21:16

I would suggest not to use "Import-PSSession" as far as possible. Instead go with the "Invoke-Command" to remotely execute the powershell scripts without importing them.

Import is a costly operation and it could be avoided.

Microsoft has a known issue, albeit unpublished, problem with the import-Pssession command. It chews up lots of memory and does not release it even after closing and disposing runspace, powershell, and pipelines. I have even tried explicit calls to GC.Collect...but no help there. I found hints of it in a few places on the web.

Finally placed a call to MS and they said don't shutdown if you don't have to. reuse same runspace for as long as possible...though powershell session will timeout if you are using dynamically in a program and it is idle for a while, like in a web app that make exchange 2010 powershell management commands.

Depending on your needs, you may be able to use RunspaceFactory.CreateOutOfProcessRunspace(). It creates a runspace in a brand new PowerShell process, then uses what looks like PowerShell remoting to communicate back to the invoking process. So, you have to deal with the same sort of issues you deal with when using a remote PowerShell (complex objects come back as Deserialized PSObjects, etc.), but anything that might leak memory leaks it in that process, which you discard when you're done. –  Jamie Macia Dec 11 '13 at 23:33
