I have a mysql search which is really slow (0.4 seconds) and seems to be scanning all table rows and not using an index. I have tried restricting the query to look for only records in a 10 mile bounding box, but the query is just the same speed as it doesnt seem to be using the bounding box.

I have simplified the query abit below to remove unnessary things :

obviously it will search for all rows because distance column is not a primary column, its a generated column. –  diEcho Sep 20 '12 at 11:01

Create a procedure and call that procedure. may be this will speed up. –  diEcho Sep 20 '12 at 12:33
