I'm developping an UART driver for EmbededXen (hypervisor for arm architecture based on Xen). As I have no kernel experience at this level, I can't determine where I should put my driver.
With the EmbeddedXen architecture, I have two linux domains (the host "dom0" and the guest "domU") running in the hypervisor. The hardware interaction is made by dom0 who has to relay the data that concern domU.
Here are the tasks assumed by the UART driver on the dom0 side :
- Initializing stuffs used for communication between the two domains
- Relaying data from the low level driver to domU
- Getting data from domU and forward it to the low level driver
- Additional function : choose which domain datas are transferred to the low level driver (other domain data are lost)
My question is : between which layer should I interface my UART driver assuming the actual architecture is this :
- tty -> uart (serial_core) -> serial low level driver (amba_pl011)
Should I put it between *tty and serial_core* layers or between *serial_core and pl011* layers ?
I know both would be possible but I wonder which one is best to the Linux kernel logic.
