I'm (a newbie in php) still working on a time off project and another problem came up, for which I can't find a solution. Therefore I hope u guys can help me! Worked great the last time I posted something on here! I really appreciate your help...thx ahead!

My problem: I want users to be able to upload pictures when they are logged in. They got several little buttons on their profile with images on them...and they should be able to change them... I want to have it like this -> When a user uploads an image, the script shall create a new folder on the server. This shall happen in the "user_images" folder (that exists already). So a user with e.g. "id=55" creates a folder "55" in "user_images" when he uploads images. I tried and tried and tried and tried...with different syntax in line -> "$upload_dir =" but without any success :-/ I just don't get it to work...

It would be really cool if someone could help me to fix these problems...you may know how hard it is, when you're just a rookie! If there's more weird syntax in there...let me know, I'm just a beginner (like we all have been at the beginning) and trying to get better :)

Keeping in mind that allowing any user to upload content to your server creates a security hole that requires special attention, this is a bit of code I've used in the past for an internal-use application:

$folderPath = "/uploads/" . $folderName;

You can also chmod right from mkdir but was having issues with doing that on this particular server config.

Hey! yeah I know that this is a security risk, but how else could I do it? hmm... As I can see your comment above just describes how to create a folder, but not a specified which will be created with the "name" of the user-id, right? Do you know a way how to do that? ...ok and I tried it with your code u provided...now it's the same as before. when I upload an image, it gets stored in /uploads/, a folder gets created with the name "Resource id #3" (tried it with different users, all the same) and the image gets stored in uploads but not in the specified folder which got a weird name yet... can u help? THe problem you are getting now is described in my answer. YOU ARE ASSIGNING A RESOURCE TYPE TO THE $_SESSION["user_id"]. First, you must fetch the user_id column from it... –  Seth Sep 30 '12 at 20:21
    
See if the update to my answer helps. I added a bit that will handle the upload so you can see it in application better. Haven't looked through your code so you'll have to figure out how/where to implement it. All you needed to do with my first example was change the "folderName" variable to your liking; in your case the user's id. –  Mike Sep 30 '12 at 20:26

Thats awesome...but now I get this: Warning: mkdir() [function.mkdir]: Permission denied in /users/uploadimage.php on line 179 Warning: chmod() [function.chmod]: No such file or directory in /users/uploadimage.php on line 180 And those two lines are -> mkdir("$upload_dir"); chmod("$upload_dir", 0755); I know...u probably think what an idiot, but as I said..beginner ;) I'm trying my best! @Seth - I fetched the user_id column right at the beginning to get the value...hmmm Would be cool if u could help me to solve this problem! You are assigning a mysql query resource to the $_SESSION["user_id"]

$_SESSION['user_id'] = mysql_query("select * from user where id='$_SESSION[user_id]'");

I think you want to get the user id out of that query

Also if your code produces any errors it would be great if you included them in your question

ps. don't use mysql_* functions, they are deprecated and create unwanted security holes if not used properly, learn dibi, pdo, or any other newer database layer

Thx, for your help! But that with the user-id worked already, my problem is just how to create a folder with that id?! So that a certain user or better the script creates a specified folder with their user id... do u know what I mean? –  Fab Sep 30 '12 at 18:57
