I have a Wordpress site on a MediaTemple DV4 server with 8GB RAM. The DB has over 35K posts and at peak hours, the site has between 300 and 400 concurrent users. The homepage runs 6 queries to the wp_posts table.

Could anyone offer any advice on the best settings for the my.cnf file? Thanks.

May be you can check the size of the queries, it's possible that 1M is too big and smaller - but frequently running - queries won't be cached.

pt-query-digest is an excellent tool for doing that: http://www.percona.com/doc/percona-toolkit/2.1/pt-query-digest.html

For general tips, you can use: http://mysqltuner.pl keep it in mind, that they're just generic advices, so don't follow them blindfolded, but usually the script's output is a good start when optimizing MySql.

key_buffer_size is only relevant of you're using MyISAM tables (don't!).

If you want the database to run smoothly with InnoDB then raise the innodb_buffer_pool_size to higher than the actual database size(if it's possible)
