I am looking for way how to import object hierarchy from X3D file to the Blender 2.63 workspace. I know that there is an python importer module in \Blender\2.63\scripts\addons\io_scene_x3d\import_x3d.py

I found out that if I change parameter PREF_FLAT to True than hierarchy of Transformation nodes is created. But that's all nothing is displayed.

Does somebody has a clue how display all nodes properly?

I had a similar problem recently and this is the python script that I'm using:

import_x3d.py:

import sys
import os

sys.path.append(r'/path_to_blender/bin/2.63/scripts/addons/io_scene_x3d/')

import bpy
from bpy_extras.io_utils import axis_conversion
import import_x3d

global_matrix = axis_conversion('-Y','Z','-Z','Y').to_4x4()

import_x3d.load_web3d('/path_to_x3dfile/scene.x3d',
           PREF_FLAT=True,
           PREF_CIRCLE_DIV=16,
           global_matrix = global_matrix
    )

bpy.context.scene.camera = bpy.data.objects['Viewpoint']

You will need to create an empty blender scene in which you will be importing the x3d file. After that just execute from command line like so:

./blender blank.blend -P import_x3d.py

I'm not sure if that is actually what you need, but I hope it helps.
