Im using building for audio player existing code from http://www.androidhive.info/2012/03/android-building-audio-player-tutorial/. But i run this code in my emulator i get following error.

You have a NullPointerException in 76th line of AndroidBuildingMusicPlayerActivity.java. Please post that line - or probably the whole thing. EDIT is this the 76th line in your source? songsList = songManager.getPlayList(); –  ppeterka Oct 11 '12 at 11:55

It seems that despite the constructor call new SongManager(), somehow yout songManager variable is null. Please verify that a value is given to that variable. Or, you could help us and post the whole class, exactly from your IDE, and we'll spot the problem a lot easier. –  ppeterka Oct 11 '12 at 14:14

the error is not in SongsManager, but in AndroidBuildingMusicPlayerActivity.java. please post the whole file here. –  ppeterka Oct 12 '12 at 6:28

This part is incorrect, but this is not the cause of your problem :

Original code:

        public void onClick(View arg0) {

Should be:

        public void onClick(View arg0) {
           // check for already playing
            if(mp!=null){
                if(mp.isPlaying()){
                    mp.pause();
                    // Changing button image to play button
                    btnPlay.setImageResource(R.drawable.btn_play);
                }

The problem is that your stack trace clearly shows that the problem is not this (though this would cause a NullPointerException too, but would only get surfaced once the buttons are clicked...)

I'll try and look into it a bit more.

I tried another similar beginners mediaplayer code, and it took me a while to realise, that the cause of my crashes was that it couldn't handle an empty folder.

As there are no mp3's in my sdcard root I changes that to sdcard/Music, where I keep my music and everything worked just fine.

I haven't looked at your code closely but it might be the same thing as it's trying to get a filelist which is empty.
