I have been trying to extract all the png files from an APNG file. i have looked for help and well there isnt much. All i could find is a open source library pngj and with it i am able to get the first frame of a APNG file.

Here is the code i am using

so basically i am just mirroring an apng file and it gets converted into a png file which is the first frame. So can some one tell me how to get the remaining frames and save them as png files? Any help or hints would be appricated

Actually the PNGJ library (I'm the author) does not support APNG standard (digression: I decided against it because I didn't like APGN approach and because it didn't fit with the idea of my library :loading "huge" data -IDAT- progressively, line by line; and loading the chunks (metadata) in memory directly; APGN abuses the PGN standard by storing frames in chunks).

You could try to use it anyay to do what you want to, but not in an elegant and robust way. Here's an example. Beside being ugly, this would not work for partial frames (frames smaller than the full image, which APNG supports), nor for overlays, nor for paletted images (the later issue would be the easiest to fix) (fixed, hopefully).

well thanks alot for the code , i never myself was in favour of apng files due to size but its a bit difficult to make your employeer undertsatnd that :P well with this code i have been able to work with any apng with less than 50-60 frames ,it works like a champ but if i go beyond that the images appear to be broken and information is missing or completely gone , and when i try to see what is wrong with the image , it says that missing image data or invalid compressed data. any idea why this is happening? –  chossen-addict Oct 12 '12 at 18:41
    
I'd need to look at the images with problems. YOu can also use the nice tool tweakpng to look inside the image and see if the problem appears with some particular pattern in the chunk structure (eg, more than one fdat chunk per frame, etc) –  leonbloy Oct 12 '12 at 20:18
    
well you are spot on , all the apng images i have that are not able to get extracted are all having more than one fdat chunks per frame, so should i be trying to get all fdat chunks in a frame and make them one ? sorry if I sound like a total noob , because actually I am when it comes to dealing with images –  chossen-addict Oct 12 '12 at 20:31
