I would like to know how I can parse xml data that I have collected via a http GET request (specifically wolfram alpha) in python. I am new to python, however I do have significant experience with other C - based languages, so please try to keep answers in simple terms. :)

I would like to parse an xml document like a default html interpreter would - removing tags, brackets, and text effects such as bold, italics, etc. until I just get the very basic text data that the xml is supposed to show in a browser for instance. I have looked around for an answer to this already, but most answers use external python modules (I would like to only use the modules that exist in Python 3.x), or were not in simple terms for me to understand.

What you're describing seems like a job for XSLT. Rather than parse a document, you want to change the way it's presented. I'm not familiar with python libraries but a quick search for python and xslt should get you going. –  toniedzwiedz Oct 28 '12 at 11:16
Do you know what the difference between xml and html is? It seems you need to parse html but yet you call it xml... But the most important thing is there are hundreds of questions here asking about the same.
