All I am having an irritating issue with a custom camera activity I have created. I wanted to have a soft button when pressed focus the camera when the user presses the button (Action_Down), take a picture if the user lifts (Action_Up) his/her finger over the imageview, and then cancel all actions if the user drags out of the button area/lifts up outside of the button.

Below is my on touch listener that I have registered to an ImageView;

The issue I am having is that when a garbage collection occurs an event Action_UP is triggered falsely even if the user still has his/her finger down on the button. Below is the logcat output:

I have verified that when a garbage collection is triggered (by dumping the heap in DDMS View) that this false Action Up is triggered.

My question is what options do I have to prevent this behavior? Is there anyway to prevent garbage collection for a certain period?

How long of a button press are you talking about? I recall that some android OS have a timeout mechanism for MotionEvents, they will automatically fire action up after some amount of time (30 or 60 seconds iirc). I don't believe it's possible to turn this off. Does this sound like it could be your problem? –  Tim Oct 29 '12 at 16:32
    
Also in that log it looks like your action up comes almost 2 seconds before the GC. Are you certain they're related? –  Tim Oct 29 '12 at 16:37
    
The thing is that once the heap size is increased and then the imageview is pressed and held there are no false Action_Up Calls. It works just fine then when I keep the button pressed. I did a test where I pressed the button and forced a garbage collection using a heap dump in DDMS view. At this point a false Action_Up was triggered. Hope that clarifies things. If that's true I guess it's just a bug in the Operating System, there's not much you can do about it other than file a bug report. –  Tim Oct 29 '12 at 16:55
    
@Tim - I added an additional logcat output that captures a heap dump and then the GC_MALLOC. My finger is still firmly on the button prior to the GC collection, but I still get a false Action Up event.Thx –  Jib Oct 29 '12 at 17:01
