sendto system call fails with error "No buffer space available", error code "ENOMEM". It seems to be failure of kmalloc within sendto. When I read about it, I learned that it could fail due nonavailability of contiguous memory. However, system has got enough free memory. I am not sure why kmalloc would fail.

PS: I am running application in embedded hardware.

The proper treatment here may be software design. Is there a reason you're trying to send an 88kb packet over a local datagram socket? It seems like a stream socket would be a more appropriate choice for data of this size (which I'll guess is very likely to be parsed in-order on the other side anyway). For very small transfers, the stream overhead can be measurable, but surely not when copying this much data between processes.

The key word is 'contiguous' - you can have lots of free pages, but none of them are next to each other.

I guess the solution might be to send less than 1 page's worth at a time?

As per error dump, system has got 4485 pages(each 4K bytes). Do you think it is not able to find 88K bytes of contiguous memory? –  Shashikiran Oct 29 '12 at 16:36
    
We've certainly seen problems with not being able to allocate 2 contiguous pages in our kernel modules, running on full machines rather than embedded. I think it's quite likely, since there is no attempt to keep contiguous memory available AFAIK. –  Douglas Leeder Oct 30 '12 at 17:54
