I've been having a lot of trouble recently with my webserver. The loading speed of my webpage is extremely slow and when I check htop I notice the mysql process to use around 800-1000% of CPU. I have tried everything the mysqltuner suggests but I have yet to see an improvement.

Here are the mysqltuner results:

What could I do to improve the webpage loading speed and reduce the mysql stress on the CPU?

@JanDvorak many distros do not divide the CPU usage by the number of cores. –  Sammitch Oct 29 '12 at 19:42
@Sammitch Which still means the peak at 1000% is unlikely. I can imagine a machine with 8 or 16 cores, not 10. –  Jan Dvorak Oct 29 '12 at 19:45
@JanDvorak imagine the very likely case that this guy has really just unbelievably badly written queries to the point that running just one uses 100% of a core. It's probably X > 10 cores with a thusfar-observed worst case of 10 concurrent abomination queries. Also, AMD has processors with 3 and 6 cores, so it could be 12! –  Sammitch Oct 29 '12 at 19:52

Indexing your tables properly should help, see the create index syntax page. Also, you might check the page about optimization. I recently went through some performance problems and decided to upgrade MySQL to 5.5 to benefit in utilizing multiple CPU cores; I know of some bugs in earlier versions that didn't use but one core, etc., but I can't find a good reference for that at the moment.

Also, try some settings like this in your /etc/my.cnf file:

# improvements for InnoDB:
# improvements for MyISAM:

The recommended values will vary depending on how much RAM your server has, so this is worth a try. Mine, in this case, has 20 Gigs of RAM.

When in doubt, use MyISAM for web pages if you can get away with it. MySQL 5.5 is much more mature for using InnoDB, but earlier version have issues with InnoDB.

Probably the queries to the DB need to be optimized.. and I also see the there are many JOIN queries without indexes.. indexing your tables on the fields used to JOIN would help.
